..."Well you know, I feel that music should not be about distinguishing myself from "the rest", as much as it should be about relating to the people around me. To me, it is an expression of what is in my heart and mind, just nothing more and nothing less. That's why it should be something that is shared, not something that sets us apart. You have to have guts though, to be able to share, you have to take a risk, you see. You've got to have the balls to be free, so to speak. You have to be free of judgement, free of fear, free of any negativity. This freedom is precisely what the music of Frimangron really stands for. It's all about freedom, if you ask me"....
(Frimangron founder Emiel Scholsberg, february 2010)
Frimangron is the name of a historical district near the heart of the capital city of Surinam, Paramaribo. Literally translated, this means so much as "free mans ground" which comes from the fact that in this particular area, the first emancipated slaves got assigned a piece of property of their own. Here they could, albeit within strict boundaries, be their own man, and attempt to build a life of their own. It was in this very part of the city that the father of Frimangron founder Emiel Scholsberg was born.
..."This music is our "Frimangron", a place where you can and may be free, where you can be who and what you truly are."...

In his lasting search for congenial spirits to play his music with, leadsinger and guitarist Emiel Scholsberg finally ended up with an extraordinary formation. Seasoned bassplayer Eric Coenen and talented drummer Erwin Gielen provide a solid foundation for the music of Frimangron in their very own, unique way. Beautifully blended together with the rich voices of the two very gifted sisters Lesley and Michèle van der Aa, this leads to a very uncommon, authentic, yet very accessible sound that refers to a great lot of different genres. Worldmusic, alternative, rock, fusion, singer/songwriter, reggae, jazz, pop, it's all in there. Not so strange though, taken into account the roots of the bandmembers: Africa, South America, Indonesia, and last but not least of course: Limburg.
